Congratulations to iCRAG PhD student Siobhan Burke who has been awarded 11 days shiptime on the Celtic Voyager, valued at 88,000 euros (in kind). The grant for ship time will be used to collect data for Siobhan's iCRAG at UCC project “Formation of Littoral and Offshore Placer Resources” and will be conducted over the course of 11 days in late March and early April 2019. The research survey has proposed collection of high-resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetry and sub-bottom profile data over a gridded survey area in Clew Bay, Co. Mayo. Grab sampling will be utilized to ground truth the geophysical data but will also be used to geochemically characterise the sediment substrate in the area. While much of the Irish coastline and territories have been mapped extensively and repeatedly in some instances, Clew Bay has not yet been mapped in full coverage. It will be the first time this part of Irelands seabed will be mapped.
