Biography
Francesca is iCRAG's Senior Grants Manager, working closely with iCRAG management and iCRAG researchers to develop, manage and support iCRAG’s programme for leveraging funding from a broad range of sources. She is responsible for leading and managing cross-institutional research development with a significant focus on nonexchequer, non-commercial and philanthropic funding. Francesca is a geoscientist with experience in both academic research and O&G industry, and a keen interest in sustainability. She is coming back to UCD, where she carried out her PhD in geophysics and was a Senior Research Fellow up to 2011, with a stint as visiting professor in the volcano observatory of Costa Rica in 2008. In her UCD years, she was Lead scientist and project coordinator within several national (SFI funded) and international (EU funded) projects. In 2010 she joined Tullow Oil, working mainly in geophysical data acquisition, analysis and integration, field operations, R&D, unconventional low impact methods for exploration, and industry-academia collaborations. In her last role, she was leading a team focused on innovation, R&D, sustainability, and geophysics in the energy transition. Since leaving the company in mid 2020, she has worked as a freelance consultant, did a course in sustainability at Cambridge University and home-schooled her kids during the various lockdowns.
