The "Geoscience for Leaving Certificate Teachers" CPD programme, continues to bridge the gap between educators and geoscientists, fostering collaboration to develop innovative teaching resources. Now in its fourth year, this well-established programme has empowered teachers with the confidence and tools to bring geoscience to life in Irish classrooms and fieldwork.
iCRAG and Geological Survey Ireland are delighted to announce the release of a new suite of teaching resources co-created by teachers and geoscientists. These materials, designed to align with the Irish curriculum, ensure both scientific accuracy and classroom practicality. Covering key topics such as coastal erosion, the changing role of peat, and radon, the resources provide engaging, research-informed content to support Leaving Certificate Geography and the new Climate Action and Sustainable Development subject. Some resources are also suitable for Transition Year teaching. The resources are available for direct download on the Get into Geoscience website.
The Geoscience for Leaving Certificate Teachers CPD programme is a free professional development opportunity for teachers, running over six evening sessions annually from September to December. The programme is organised by iCRAG, the SFI Research Centre in Applied Geosciences, in partnership with Geological Survey Ireland.
Teachers interested in accessing these newly released resources or learning more about upcoming CPD opportunities can visit the iCRAG, Geological Survey Ireland or Get into Geoscience web pages. Join us in bringing cutting-edge geoscience into classrooms and inspiring the next generation of geoscientists!
