Biography
Joe Mongan has over more than 35 years’ experience in the energy industry, starting within the geophysical service sector and progressing in various consultancy roles. He joined Tullow Oil in 1993 as staff operations geophysicist, leading the Geophysical Technology & Operations team from 2005 to 2017and laterally, Head of Applied Geophysics & Technology until mid-2020. This team provided three integrated geophysical services, geophysical data acquisition, geophysical data processing and quantitative inversion across the company’s E&P activities, worldwide.
The Applied Geophysics team leveraged its relationship with research institutions and industry consortia to benefit from leading-edge technologies and enabled focussed technology transfer to the business. He served on several industry group leadership committees including, the International OGP, geophysical operations and geomatics sub-committees as well as the IAGC industry partners executive committee. He has been actively involved in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) for many years and served as vice-chair, chairman and past chair of the SEG Global Affairs Committee from 2013-2016. He is currently a director of PIPCO RSG, providing management consultancy and industry partner research support for both national and international based geoscience projects. He holds a BSc in geology and MSc in Applied Science from University College Dublin.
