Biography
I was appointed as a Lecturer in Planning and Environmental Policy in the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy in June 2015. Prior to this I was a Lecturer in Spatial Planning in Cardiff University. I was awarded tenure in 2018. I hold both a PhD in Environmental Policy and Planning and an MSc in City and Regional Planning from Cardiff University. I also hold both an MA in Geography and a BA in Geography and English Literature from University College Cork. I am a Corporate Member of both the Irish Planning Institute and the Royal Town Planning Institute. I was a practicing town planner prior to entering academia. This included several years working in the public and private sectors, both nationally and internationally in policy formulation and development management roles. My research interests centre on interpretative analysis. I am particularly interested in how the meaning-making process influences approaches to environmental policy and planning. Substantively, my research focuses on issues concerning 'nature', sustainability planning and the philosophies of professional practice. I welcome contact from potential PhD candidates interested in these research themes, as well as from those interesting in the interpretive analysis of environmental policy and planning debates more broadly.
