Biography
Dr Stratos Delogkos is a postdoctoral researcher in the iCRAG Energy Security challenge. Stratos completed a PhD in 2016 on the 3D structure of normal fault zones in Ptolemais Basin, NW Greece, with the Fault Analysis Group in UCD, followed by a post-doctoral position working on the impact of Cenozoic deformation on potential hydrocarbon traps in Irish offshore basins. Within iCRAG, his research is focusing on the stratigraphic and structural evolution of the perched Mesozoic rift basins along the eastern margin of the Rockall Trough.
The Irish Rockall Basin remains a frontier area for petroleum exploration with only three wells and four shallow stratigraphic boreholes along the eastern flank of the basin. This research will play an important role within the iCRAG effort towards de-risking hydrocarbon exploration in Ireland by providing a better understanding of the tectonostratigraphy of the perched Mesozoic rift basins along the eastern margin of the Rockall Trough.
Project title: Comparative stratigraphic and structural evolution of perched Mesozoic rift basins along the eastern margin of the Rockall Tough
Technical Description
The aim of this project is to provide a stratigraphic and structural understanding of the perched Mesozoic rift basins along the eastern margin of the Rockall Trough. The workflow will involve characterising, comparing and contrasting the stratigraphic and structural evolution of all four perched depocentres (North and South Bróna, Pádraig and Macdara Basins). The work will entail detailed fault mapping and consideration of fault system evolution, as well as developing a tectonostratigraphy for both the fault-controlled basins and the Cretaceous and Cenozoic cover to address the possible impact of the post‐rift events on trap integrity.
