Biography
Eóin O’Donnell is a PhD researcher in the iCRAG hydrocarbon research spoke. Eóin graduated with a B.A(mod) in Geology from Trinity College Dublin in 2011 and an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience from University College Dublin in 2016 before joining iCRAG under the supervision of Prof. Peter Haughton. His research investigates syn-rift basin fill architecture using constraints from forward stratigraphic modelling. This research aims to: better characterise the relationship between fault system evolution; stratigraphic development and reservoir presence in syn-rift hangingwall depocentres; investigating the insight forward stratigraphic modelling can provide; and test the extents to which preserved fault geometries can help guide reservoir prediction in the context of Irish offshore basins.
My research investigates the interplay of fault evolution and depositional processes during a rifting event in order to better predict hydrocarbon reservoir presence. I will be using a variety of forward stratigraphic modelling methods with a view to better understanding this relationship.
Project title: Syn-rift basin-fill architecture – constraints from forward stratigraphic modelling
Technical description
This research aims to: better characterise the relationship between fault system evolution; stratigraphic development and reservoir presence in syn-rift hangingwall depocentres; investigating the insight forward stratigraphic modelling can provide; and test the extents to which preserved fault geometries can help guide reservoir prediction in the context of Irish offshore basins.
