Prof. Maeve Boland

Maeve graduated in geology from Trinity College Dublin and had a varied career in mineral exploration, petroleum, the Industrial Minerals Section at Geological Survey Ireland, and in the U.S. non-profit sector before earning her PhD from Colorado School of Mines. She spent a year in the U.S. Senate as the 2009 AGU Congressional Science Fellow, followed by two years as an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey. She was Director of Geoscience Policy at the American Geosciences Institute (2013-18) before moving back to Ireland and joining the UCD School of Earth Sciences on a joint UCD-GSI contract. She serves on several UNESCO, GSA, and AGU committees and is fascinated by the complex intersections between geoscience and society.
