Biography
Stamena Zekic is a graduate researcher in the iCRAG hydrocarbon research spoke. Stamena graduated with BSc in Earth and Ocean Sciences in 2019 from National University of Ireland Galway, before joining iCRAG under the supervison of Dr Tom Manzocchi.
Producing more realistic 3D models of complex subsurface reservoirs has the potential to maximise the recovery of oil and gas. Stamena joined iCRAG to conduct reservoir geomodelling research using the new computer software developed by the iCRAG Geomodeling team. The goal is to make more geologically realistic models.
Technical description
I joined the team of researchers at UCD to help develop and apply new methods in 3D subsurface computational modelling. The aim is to test that the new software developed in iCRAG is functioning correctly, to contribute to design and documentation, and to build demonstration models and conduct modelling experiments for use in presentations and publications. The new software is implemented as plugins to Schlumberger’s Petrel geomodelling platform. Furthermore, my research is also focused on generating hierarchical reservoir models using different geostatistical modelling methods, as well as investigating their percolation threshold and the affect of different net:gross and amalgamation ratios.
