iCRAG, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre in Applied Geosciences, and IUGS, the International Union of Geological Sciences, proudly announce the ReSToRE 2 International Summer School, which will take place July 4-8 2022 in University College Dublin, Ireland.
Run under the patronage of UNESCO, the Researching Social Theories, Resources, and Environment International Summer School aims to nurture an interdisciplinary and experiential learning environment for geoscientists and social scientists to address cross-cutting topics and to create a network for all participants and contributors. Specifically, the summer school seeks to bring early-career academics and professionals from developing and developed countries together in the same physical space to foster conversations at the nexus of Earth Sciences and Social Sciences.

Participants will address key issues at the nexus of social science and Earth sciences, e.g:
- How do we as society value the discovery, extraction, use, and disposal of Earth resources?
- How do people assess the positive and negative consequences of using these resources?
- What activities are acceptable to ensure a reliable supply of resources and what are not?
- How can the benefits of Earth’s resources and the cost of their use be fairly distributed?
- What ethical dilemmas play a role in the development and use of resources?
- How could companies in both the extractive and manufacturing sectors contribute to the debate?
Public talks will be given by international scholars. In workshops led by international scholars, practitioners,and stakeholders, participants will prepare researchproposals on emerging themes in this developing area ofresearch. There will be a vibrant social programme withextensive networking opportunities
