Biography
Aurobindo Kumar Basantaray, a dedicated geophysicist, holds a bachelor's degree in Physics honours and pursued his master's in Geophysics. His academic journey led him to a Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, specializing in Integrated Geophysics with a focus on geothermal studies. Aiming to unravel the Earth's mysteries, Aurobindo employs gravity, magnetic, and electromagnetic methods in his geodynamic research. Passionate about exploring geothermal systems, tectonic processes, and crustal deformation, he contributes to innovative research and data integration. A collaborator at heart, Aurobindo is driven to address societal challenges, including energy security and environmental sustainability. As a post-doctoral researcher at UCD since October 2023, he plays a crucial role in a consortium, including iCRAG, characterizing subsurface geological features of Limerick basin through Multiphysics geophysical inversions and petrophysics. Aurobindo exemplifies a commitment to advancing geophysical understanding for a sustainable future.
The project, in which Aurobindo is a key participant, focuses on understanding the subsurface structure of Limerick basin. Their main goal is to enhance our knowledge of the Earth's subsurface, particularly for mineral exploration. The gathered data through magnetic, gravity, electromagnetic, and seismic measurements are integrating with on-site petrophysical and geological information. By combining these various datasets, the research aims to create more accurate 3D models of the Earth's interior, providing valuable insights for mineral exploration and resource management.
